Tips For Making Your Home Ready to Sell!
Ready to make your home irresistible to buyers? Today, we'll guide you through choosing the perfect colors to make your home stand out.
In order for ANY color you select to be put on the pedestal it deserves, lighting is key.
Make sure you have enough watts per square foot in each room - it varies from room to room and there are great lighting calculators online to determine what you need. Choose cool-leaning LED light bulbs for a consistent look throughout your home.
Cool LED lights enhance your space, making it look bright and inviting.
Good lighting can make a huge difference in how your home is perceived.
Next, we’re diving into Light Reflectance Value, or LRV. If there is no light, the color will not reflect - which is why we started with lighting. “Millennial gray” can get a bad rap. In my experience, those colors can be fantastic choices - they’ve just been generically used and put into the wrong spaces.
LRV measures how much light a color reflects, 0 being true black and 100 being true white.
For a bright, fresh feel, you’ll aim for paint samples with an LRV between 60 and 70.
This range ensures your space feels open and inviting, which is exactly what you want when selling your home.
My third tip is to test your colors next to things in your home that you can’t change, like countertops and cabinets. Look at how the undertones interact.
In my home, Edgecomb Gray looked great in a naturally lit living room, but appeared fleshy in a poorly lit dining room, even with good lighting.
Finally, go with your gut. Only bring home 3-4 samples to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Popular colors can be an excellent choice, so test several that you hear often and choose the color that feels best.
When selling, the goal is a clean slate for potential buyers. As the market shifts, salability becomes crucial. Put your best foot forward and make your home shine!
